Artist Statement: JMS Jewelry Shop is me, Jennifer M. Scudiero. I was born and raised in Winona, Minnesota. I moved to Minneapolis for college, then moved out west to Montana and Oregon. Realizing I was a midwestern woman at heart, I came back to Minnesota, first to the Twin Cities, and then all the way back to my roots in Winona.
I create jewelry by hand from my own original designs: earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. I also design and create decorative hair clips and hair pins. I use a variety of media, including Czech and Japanese glass beads, vintage glass, Czech and Swarovsky crystal, wooden beads, stones, and gemstones – especially garnet, onyx, obsidian, amethyst, jasper, and hematite – as well as metal beads and accents, charms, pendants, wire, chain, suede/leather cord, and stretch cord. I also like to up-cycle components from older and vintage jewelry. I primarily use silver and stainless steel, but I am also discovering the beauty of copper. I use bead stringing and basic weaving techniques, wire wrapping, and other wire creation techniques to make most of my pieces.
My collection includes multiple formats and styles within each category. Despite the variety, my jewelry does have a cohesive style that could best be described as “modern and polished.” It is colorful but not garish, modern but not trendy, noticeable but not overpowering, and unique but not outlandish.
