Artist Statement: I was looking for a hobby or simply something to do when I was bored or just wanted to use up some time. My wife found a used rug loom in Adel, Iowa. Now, 10 years later and 4 more looms, I have no free time!
Weaving is all about repurposing or rearranging and coming up with a new item or a new use for some items. When I first started to weave, it was all about reusing cloth or using scraps of new cloth. The cloth was either cut or torn into strips. The strips were sewed together and they make the weft for a rug. The result was a usable item, made from repurposed cloth.
As I matured in my weaving, I made place mats, towels, scarves, and discovered that there lots of yarns out there. There are yarns made from bamboo, milk, soybeans and the old standards of wool and linen. I am currently working on an old pattern to use wool and linen yarn to make an heirloom rug.
